The Rev. Roy A. Gutshall, 84, of Musser Lane, Watsontown, died Tuesday, November 2, 2004 at his home. He and his wife, the former Ethel I. Brandt, celebrated 58 years of marriage on June 30th.

Born in Mechanicsburg on April 13, 1920, he was the son of the late Roy A. and Mary Pearl (Brennaman) Gutshall. Educated in the Mechanicsburg public schools, he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Susquehanna University and graduated from the Lutheran Theological Seminary, Gettysburg, with a Bachelor of Divinity Degree.

Pastor Gutshall served pastorates at Lutheran churches near Bloomsburg, Centre Hall, Jersey Shore, and Greencastle, and Watsontown for 39 years, until retiring in 1985. He then served as interim pastor for churches in Lewisburg, Northumberland and Montgomery and supplied at several central Pennsylvania churches until 1996.

Surviving besides his wife, are five daughters and sons-in-law, Renna Mae and David Young of Lewisburg, Barbara Kaye and Robert Bachman of Watsontown, Linda Faye and Mark Hagenbugh of Dillsburg, Anita Rae and Alan Reese of Hampstead, MD, Loretta Gaye and William Bachman of Watsontown; a son and daughter-in-law, Luther Allan and Crystal Gutshall of Watsontown and 11 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2004 at 11 a.m., at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6590 Musser Lane, Watsontown, with Pastors Jill and Doug Seagle officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A luncheon and time of fellowship will be held in the church social hall immediately following the graveside committal service. Friends may call on the family at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in his memory be made to the Lutheran Theological Seminary (for their General Scholarship Fund), 61 Seminary Ridge, Gettysburg, PA 17325-1795.
