Irene M. Hagenbuch, 91, of Lewisburg, formerly of rural Milton, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, surrounded by her family. She had been living at Elmcroft Assisted Living in Lewisburg since December 2009.
She was born March 15, 1920, a daughter of the late Odis and Minnie (Hilner) Faus. She married Homer S. Hagenbuch on March 22, 1939, and they celebrated 72 years of marriage. Irene had worked in the cafeteria at the Milton Shoe factory and later at Kramm Health and Rehabilitation, Watsontown, for many years.
Following retirement, she was a volunteer at the Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village. She was an active member of Trinity Oak Grove Lutheran Church, rural Danville, where she enjoyed cooking for church suppers, and she was a member of the Washingtonville Garden Club. Irene was an avid knitter, crocheter and award-winning baker and gardener. She and her husband enjoyed square dancing, hosting card parties and traveling across the country to visit family.
In addition to her husband, Homer, living at Elmcroft Assisted Living, Lewisburg, she is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Mark O. and Linda Hagenbuch, of Dillsburg, Robert H. and Marcia Hagenbuch, of Kansas City, Mo., and David C. and Niki Hagenbuch, of Seward; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara C. and S. Thomas Huffman Sr., of Dauphin; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Howard Faus, of Hughesville, Wilson Faus, of Corona, Calif., and Elmer Faus, of Dauphin; and one sister, Catherene Lowe, of Williamsport. She was preceded in death by one brother, Ernest Faus.
Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Brooks Funeral Home, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville. The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Trinity Oak Grove Lutheran Church, 130 Hagenbuch Loop Road, Danville with the Rev. Adrian J. Shearer, interim pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
